WHY IS COACHING A GOOD IDEA?

Scientific studies show that coaching is a great investment. It increases life satisfaction and professional success and improves relationships.

The Journal of Positive Psychology found that coaching has positive effects on the outcomes of performance/skills, well-being, coping, work attitudes and goal-directed self-regulation.

Also, ongoing coaching is more effective than a one-time intervention. A study showed that while group training with managers increased their productivity by 22%, including a one-on-one, eight-week coaching session for the managers pushed up productivity by 88%.

Before my coaching, I was stuck in the past. I'd struggled to deal with the impact of abuse and didn't know how to stop it affecting my life. I knew it was holding me back, and I needed help to break out of it. I learned to let go of my fear and really uncover where it had come from and why, I used to shake at the thought of talking in front of anyone, I'd be paralysed with fear and couldn't share what I thought or felt. I started a new job and with my self confidence and 'strong character' was promoted to team lead (over more experienced people) within a few weeks. An old saying says there is no I in team. Working together with others can help us achieve goals beyond those possible by individual efforts. Being a team player is a skill that can help us in personal hobbies, work, and more.

Being seen as a team player can help us earn the respect and trust of those we work with. This in turn can help boost the effectiveness of our team and help us achieve our goals quicker.

Sometimes becoming a better team player can be difficult. It can even require us to seek the help of a skilled third-party who can offer insight and tips for our unique situation.

Coaches who understand how team activities work can be valuable for helping us build up a reputation as team players. A team-based mentality can be hard to establish alone, but coaches provide valuable strategies for helping out in this area.

Being a better team player can require us to understand how each person factors into a team effort. It also can require us to focus on ensuring each team member is valued and used to their full potential.

Once we’re seen as a team player by those we work with, it can become much easier to achieve our goals.
