WHY IS COACHING A GOOD IDEA?

Scientific studies show that coaching is a great investment. It increases life satisfaction and professional success and improves relationships.

The Journal of Positive Psychology found that coaching has positive effects on the outcomes of performance/skills, well-being, coping, work attitudes and goal-directed self-regulation.

Also, ongoing coaching is more effective than a one-time intervention. A study showed that while group training with managers increased their productivity by 22%, including a one-on-one, eight-week coaching session for the managers pushed up productivity by 88%.

In 2015, I began training for my first Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). Before then, I had done half Ironmans, long group bike rides, and countless other running races varying from 5ks to marathons. But, I had never put it all together before to go the 140.6 mile distance all in a day’s work. I decided that if I was going to commit myself to Ironman training that I wanted to do it right. I wanted to do it injury-free. I wanted to crush it. Ena’s approach to training made me realize my body’s weaknesses and build them up to prevent me from injury and make me a stronger athlete. Training with her also made me realize my body’s strengths and we celebrated them (those quads!), using them to my advantage. I continued working with Ena after Ironman, and since have completed another Ironman and a few New York City Marathons. Each time the goal is a little different – this year, we’re packing on muscle to look cut in my wedding dress. Next time – who knows? Ena’s holistic training and coaching style is appropriate for all goals. I have learned so much from her and am a more confident athlete than ever.

"Thank you Morgan!! I can honestly say that I had no idea what was going to happen during our coaching sessions. Prior to our sessions I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and was working too many hours and not spending enough time with family and friends let alone doing something for myself. I was in a hamster wheel and felt guilty to give less to work but felt bad for giving less everywhere else in my life. Our sessions helped me to make myself a priority, improve my adrenal fatigue by creating boundaries and not being addicted to drama, find ways to prioritize my life as well as how to be mindful of surrounding myself with people that are part of my tribe and not just trying to fit in anywhere because that was easy and what I always did. What a list! I didn't realize just how deep in the hamster wheel I was and now am enjoying more time with family and friends and feel better about my choices. I still sometimes feel guilty about saying 'no' but realize that I am eliminating old patterns and need to do what is best for me. I am happier.
