I taught high school science, social studies, and ESL for a total of 6 years. I also ran study abroad programs for 12 years, which led to developing a leadership program for high school students in Hawaii. Students made huge breakthroughs by operating out of their comfort zones, reflecting on their experiences, and making connections with their peers and communities. I facilitated and supported students through this process of self-discovery and empowerment. I help students articulate and take steps toward their goals and dreams.
I graduated at the top of my high school class, having taken 5 AP courses (scoring one 4 and three 5s on my AP exams, missing one exam due to illness). I graduated magna cum laude from Lewis & Clark College as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honors societies. I love sharing systems and tools to help students improve their performance in school.
Although I have always excelled in school, I was a painfully shy and insecure child with few friends. It took significant time and effort to break out of my shell and feel comfortable in my own skin- a work in progress, I must confess. It has been a difficult and (sometimes ugly) process, but I know I have made excellent strides because of the results I have in my life, which are beyond what I could have ever imagined in my youth.
